VDA is an award
winning architectural firm with an outstanding performance record
in the design of community and recreation centres and renovation/retrofitting
existing facilities. VDA has been involved in the design and development
of recreation and community facilities throughout Canada, New Zealand,
the western USA, the UK, and South Korea. VDA has an enviable and
proven track record in the leisure and recreation field and represent
the leading edge in North America today in the design and development
of such facilities. A listing of our projects by category is available below.
Designing and building a recreation or competitive facility is extremely complex, most specifically an aquatic centre must conform to many different regulatory body guidelines. To bring a project to a successful conclusion requires a consultant team that has the knowledge and experience to ensure that the facility will meet or exceed regulations and will receive the necessary approvals and permits in a timely fashion.
VDA know the FINA Standards and the Canadian Swim Standards… we use them almost on a daily basis, there will be no delays as our design team learn the requirements for competition pool design. VDA designed pools are regularly used for events such as:
- Canada Games
- Commonwealth Games
- FINA Water Polo World Cup
- Indigenous Games
- Competitive Diving
- Synchronized Swimming
- National Swimming Championships
- Regional and Local Swim Meets
- Competitive Water Polo
VDA has a long relationship of working with the Ministry of Health on Provincial Pool Regulations. We have had to work very closely with the Ministry through the years because some of the innovations in our early projects (and even those being developed now) were so ground breaking that they were not covered by the regulations. VDA not only knows Provincial Pool Regulations, we helped to reform them. Vic Davies has in fact worked directly with the Ministry of Health on a committee to rewrite the current British Columbia regulations for public swimming pools.
In aquatics like other sports, the difference between winning and losing isn’t measured in meters, centimetres, or millimetres. It’s measured in hundredths of a second. VDA is the design team that will bring you a winning aquatic facility.
Following
the introduction of the first aquatic leisure centre in British
Columbia in Maple Ridge in 1981, VDA has developed a formidable
reputation for practical, cost conscious, efficient, and innovative
design of recreation facilities throughout British Columbia.
As a result VDA is regarded as the pioneers of the leisure pool
concept in Canada, which has revolutionized recreation centre design
throughout the country.
