Houston
Leisure Facility, Houston, BC
The District of Houston, with a population of only 3,500, undertook
a feasibility study to determine the wants and needs of the local
residents for leisure and recreation opportunities. It was determined
that a three phased project would be completed over a span of twenty
years. Phase One, the most important, would comprise a year-round
indoor aquatic facility, complete with both aerobic and fitness
rooms. This phase was complted in August 2006.

The interior décor of the facility will reflect the rich
natural heritage and beauty of the surrounding area, with lavish
murals, trees, rocks, and colourful banners.
The new facility will feature a 4-lane 25m competition pool with
1m and 3m dive boards, a zero to 3 foot deep warm water "teaching"
pool with handicap accessible ramp, and a Tots' pool with leisure
components such as a T-cup and sprays. Additional fun features will
include a swirl pool, lazy river, vortex, and sauna. Male, female,
and family change rooms are included in the design.
This
facility will form the cornerstone of the revolutionized leisure
and recreation services provided in the District of Houston and
is sure to be successful and well received by the local residents
and tourists alike.
