Pioneer Sports Centre
Christchurch, New Zealand
Vic Davies Architect Ltd. was contracted by a local New Zealand
firm to provide specialist pool consultant services for the design
development, working drawings, and specifications for the pools
at the Pioneer Sports Centre.

Pioneer Sports Centre was one of two facilities undertaken by Christchurch
City Council.
With its opening, this facility becomes one of a handful of wave
pools in New Zealand. The wave pool has, without a doubt, proven
to be the greatest draw at municipal facilities that have taken
the plunge and introduced surf into their pools.
The leisure pool incorporates other popular features such as the
lazy river, water sprays, and bubble pit, while the 25 metre lap
pool meets the needs of the more serious swimmer.
Built as an adjunct to a stadium and dry sports area, this aquatic
facility completes the package of services offered at the Pioneer
Sports Centre. The whole complex is aimed at being a family-orientated
facility.

The interior design of this pool was developed by the local New
Zealand architect in conjunction with the Christchurch City Council.
