Hyde Creek Community Centre
Port Coquitlam, British Columbia

A fine example of a multi-faceted community centre, this complex has become the “hub” of the community arts, cultural, fitness, and aquatics fraternities. A major feature of this facility is its themed interior decor package depicting the extensive history of the Port Coquitlam area.

Completed in July of 1995, the Hyde Creek Community Centre proudly displays towering evergreen trees, brightly coloured cloud-like banners and sails hanging from the ceiling, playful water-spraying raccoons, and the “POCO Rescue Boat” form part of the themed interior decor. The hand-painted mural with its majestic scenery, powerful steam locomotive, and heritage shop fronts offer a lesson in the area's history while providing a relaxing and enjoyable setting for recreational activities.
The addition of a new waterslide looping outside the building was made to the existing 25 metre pool. The three levels of the new leisure pool are joined with weirs allowing the water to flow from one level to the next. Access to the leisure pool can be made into any one of the three levels of water, or by use of a long sloping ramp. The gentle curves, rounded corners, and freeform shape of the leisure pool invite relaxation, fun, and creative play. A poolside viewing deck and café are included in the amenities of this centre.

In this facility moving water is provided in a number of ways – lazy river, raindrop unit, numerous sprays, weirs, and interactive water play devices. Initially introduced to provide entertainment and enjoyment, these features proved to supply many therapeutic benefits. The elderly and disabled are now actively taking full advantage of a massage under the waterfalls and raindrop units.
