Nicola Valley
Aquatic Centre
Merritt, British Columbia

A visit to the Nicola Valley Aquatic Centre is like walking into Bermuda, with the palms and clouds that decorate the $2.8 million structure. This aquatic centre is much more than just a pool. Serving the City of Merritt (population 7,623 in 1993) and the surrounding area, the Nicola Valley Aquatic Centre's attendance figures for 1997 show an average daily attendance of 209, with the highest attendance shown in July 1997 (323 per day). Total attendance for 1997 was 76,160.

Having access for the disabled, the leisure pool has been built with every possible user in mind. Aside from being a warmer temperature than the larger pool, the leisure pool has a separate area for moms and tots, away from the antics of the older children, who will no doubt be enjoying the swirlpool, vortex, lazy river, and watersprays. The lazy river is excellent for those with arthritis who can exercise by striding against the current.

The 25 metre 6 lane lap pool is complete with 1 metre springboard diving.
