Vic
is President of Vic Davies Architect (2003) Ltd. a Victoria British
Columbia based architectural firm, practicing worldwide and specializing
in aquatic and recreational centre design. Vic has been continuously
involved in aquatic, leisure, recreation, and sports centre design
since the mid 1960s.
His university thesis study in 1967, The Welsh National Recreation
Centre, was subsequently constructed in Cardiff in 1970. Prior
to and following his graduation in 1967 with Honours in Architecture,
Vic worked with a large South Wales design and construction management
company, which specialized in the design and delivery of aquatic
and sports centres throughout the UK. As Chief Architect, with
an architectural staff complement of 30, he was responsible for
the design and detailing of over 20 major leisure, aquatic, and
sports complexes throughout the UK in the early 1970s.
In 1979, Vic introduced British Columbia to the world of leisure
pools with the design of the Maple Ridge Leisure Centre. This
award winning facility was light-years ahead of any other facilities
in BC, and was the first to include the leisure pool concept,
moving water, family change rooms, and a poolside viewing terrace,
all features which are now regarded as standard practice.
Since then Vic has designed and led the consultant team on over
100 recreation/aquatic/ice facilities worldwide.
