Vic
Davies
BA (Hons Arch)
Beginning
in 1967 Vic Davies has been continuously involved in the design
and development of recreation, aquatic, and community facilities
throughout Canada, the UK, the USA, Australia, the Orient, and
New Zealand. Vic Davies was founder and president of Vic Davies
Architect (2003) Ltd., a Victoria firm with a worldwide reputation
in the design of leisure facilities. Vic has single-handedly changed
the nature of pool designs in Canada, starting in 1980 with the
Maple Ridge Leisure Centre, the first leisure pool built in British
Columbia. This award winning facility was light-years ahead of
any other facilities in BC, and was the first to include the leisure
pool concept, moving water, family change rooms, and a poolside
viewing terrace, all features which are now regarded as standard
practice.
Since then
Vic has designed and led the consultant team on over 100 recreation/aquatic/ice
facilities worldwide.
Other innovative
solutions Vic has introduced to Western Canada include, moving
water, wave machines, family changerooms, poolside viewing areas,
lazy rivers, "conversation pit" swirlpool, to name but
a few. The latest "first" for Vic is a fully accessible
indoor waterslide for the disabled; a first for North America.
