What some of the VDA clients say about
this exceptional design team:
"
Selecting Vic Davies Architect was one of the easiest
decisions the City made in the re-development of the Gallagher Centre.
We wanted a creative, experienced firm to design our new leisure
pool and we also needed to ensure we had a firm that was familiar
with building swimming pools in extreme climates
The result
is a facility the City, community, and region are proud to tell
their friends and family about
You don't visit the Gallagher
Centre Water Park, you experience it."
Darcy McLeod, Director of Leisure Services
City of Yorkton, Saskatchewan
Gallagher Centre Project Manager
"
VDA were part of the original team of architects
who designed this 180,000 sq. ft. world class facility. In 2005,
under the direction and leadership of VDA, the facility added a
14,000 sq. ft. expansion which included a state-of-the-art Fitness/Weight
room and a beautiful 3,500 sq. ft. Teen Centre with its own sound
recording studio
I would definitely recommend VDA for their
creative and functional design attributes."
Tom Bryce, Manager
Saanich Commonwealth Place
"
Both gentlemen (Vic Davies and Brian Inness) have
provided us with excellent, creative service. They are very much
customer focused. They initially reviewed public feedback on what
our community said they wanted in a pool. Vic and Brian then created
a design that reflected these comments
everyone who sees the
pool is almost speechless with praise for the facility
I can
not stress enough how pleased we are with the work of Vic Davies
Architect Ltd. In my mind, their key strengths are creativity, knowledge
of pools, and customer service, all delivered in a friendly, professional
manner."
City of Revelstoke
Alan Chell, Director of Parks and Recreation
Revelstoke Aquatic Centre, Revelstoke
"
a 'mini GM Place'
You (Vic Davies) and your
staff achieved a design that is very esthetically pleasing, particularly
the interior of the facility, and at the same time functional. Your
ability to work with the West Shore Parks and Recreation Staff and
Arena Committee was helpful in establishing a design that all were
comfortable with
Thank you for your expert contribution in
making our project such a great success."
V. Monty Holding, (former) Administer, West Shore Parks and
Recreation Society
Bear Mountain Arena
The City of Aspen Colorado embarked last year (1999) on
an effort to build a multi-sport complex including a lap pool and
new ice arena. Vic (Davies') presentations to the public and the
City Council have been professional, informative, and reassuring.
His tireless reexamination of options has been very helpful to staff.
Aspen is a world-class resort community and its citizens' expectations
are very high. Vic has been a leader in helping the City staff and
the public, understand and select the options available to us. His
designs are creative and his patience is tremendous."
Steve Bossart, Project Manager
City of Aspen, Colorado, USA
Through their team approach, Vic Davies and his partner
Brian Inness, worked extremely well with the Design Committee, Parks
Recreation and Culture Commission, and City staff to achieve the
best possible result for the City. The project (additions to Beban
Park Pool) had to be fast tracked to fit within the time frame of
the grant. It was through this project that Vic and Brian brought
us a quality project based on their philosophy of spending money
on what people want in a facility as opposed to spending excessive
funds on the exterior shell of the building. It has been a pleasure
to work closely with Vic Davies and Brian Inness on both projects
(Beban Park and Nanaimo Aquatic Centre) and I have found their professional
and personal integrity above reproach.
Lyle Percevault, (former) Project Manager
City of Nanaimo, Nanaimo, British Columbia
I am adamant that in pool design we should use the best
advice possible from around the world. I am not convinced that Australasia
has experts close to the experience and proven success of Vic Davies
and his team. They (VDA) are able to build up a project profile
from their vast experience and have creativity and vision. The manner
in which we have engaged them as lead consultants for QEII (Recreation
Centre) was based on a number of failures using other lead consultants...
who did not have the design concepts or practical experience. A
pool is a complex construction and should have the best consultants
available to ensure its design and operational synergies.
Alistair Graham, Manager
Christchurch City Council Leisure, New Zealand
Vic (Davies) quickly won the respect of the design team.
He produced innovative yet cost-effective solutions based on careful
analysis of requirements and a high degree of common sense. In a
team situation Vic was quick to point out and argue against the
illogical, the pretentious, and the irrelevant, but equally quick
to support that which was innovative, cost effective, and that which
would improve the project from the client's and users' point of
view
I have the highest regard not only for Vic's professionalism
and flair, but also for his personal and professional integrity.
Invercargill City Council, New Zealand
William J. Watt, BA, Dip, TP,
Director of Environmental and Planning Services
Invercargill Splash Palace, New Zealand
Vic Davies, Brian Inness, and their staff have demonstrated
to successive councils a commitment to excellence in the design
of multi-purpose recreation facilities. Their dedication, strong
work ethic, attention to detail, and ability to consistently adhere
to tight construction schedules and budgets has been greatly appreciated
over the years.

Summer Games held in Kamloops, BC, in 1993. In preparation for the

a $6m Aquatic Centre. From my experience of working with Messrs.

of similar projects."

overruns and contractor hassles, it has been refreshing to work

"I have found your firm (VDA) to be especially able to
rise to the many challenges of the complicated public private partnership,
we as a client group have placed on your firm. Key attributes that
you and your team displayed
thorough understanding of pool
design, mechanical functions, and building requirements
a
level of excitement and sense of place in the building design and
ensuring that the client team has the same sense of excitement
ability to manage the input of the many whom had input and coordinate
this input throughout the many stages of the project. "
Ken Kuntz, Director Regional Rec Complexes Recreation Program
and Facilities
Westside Regional Recreation Complex, Calgary Parks and Recreation
"Through features such as our Rip-n-rattle Waterslide and
giant White Pelicans flying over the leisure/wave pool Vic Davies
has created an aquatic playground celebrating our uniqueness. Throughout
all aspects of the design and construction, Vic Davies and Brian
Inness' combined experience in the aquatic industry allowed us to
move step by step through the complex process of a capital project.
Consistently, they provided the City with knowledgeable and well-considered
consultation on all aspects of the project."
Judi Frank, Director, Family Leisure Centre

We have found their (VDA) professionalism in dealing with our
company and our clients to be beyond reproach. They have always
met our deadlines and gone beyond what is required in helping us
achieve our targets and most importantly our budgets.
